In winter 2014 the Center for Ocean Solutions’ early career fellows and research analysts participated in a leadership development training series. This three-part series addressed the topics of self-reflection as a leader, working with and leading teams and facilitation for breakthrough problem-solving.
-Self-Reflection as a Leader: Participants explored what it means to be a leader and were guided through a self-reflection process that encouraged them to recognize their strengths and skills, and acknowledge their challenges and areas for improvement.
-Working with and Leading Teams: Participants took part in an in-depth exploration of the characteristics of highly functioning teams, receiving training in tools and techniques to lead teams to a highly functioning level, including how to address and embrace conflict.
-Facilitation for Breakthroughs: Participants were introduced to basic tools and guides for meeting facilitation. The training also led participants through ways to employ design thinking skills to facilitate breakthroughs in group thinking.
Fellows and research analysts continue to harness, implement and fine-tune the skills learned during these and other trainings through their project work at the Center.
