Please join the Synchro program for a 30-minute webinar featuring OceanSpace as they introduce their Aquatic Imager, a rugged, portable tool designed to photograph, identify, and count small organic particulates in water. About the size of a breadbox and light enough to carry by hand, it can be deployed just about anywhere: in a classroom, on a research vessel of any size, at an aquaculture facility, or alongside a stream or estuary. Water flows through the device and proprietary OceanSpace software handles image capture, analysis, and visualization in near real time. Each image is assigned a seconds-scale time stamp, enabling integration with GPS data and environmental measurements like salinity and temperature to produce layered maps that reveal the fine-scale distribution of target particulates across a body of water. Instead of relying on traditional net sampling, which is slow and labor-intensive, the Aquatic Imager offers a faster, more cost-efficient way to monitor the health of freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems.
The Center for Ocean Solutions co-founded the Synchro program and leads its co-design efforts. This webinar is part of a bite-sized, show-and-tell tech series in which Synchro participants share innovative technologies they're testing, followed by Q&A. Socializing emerging technologies to potential users is part of Synchro’s aim to increase adoption of new ocean-observing technologies.
